To say that Tishamingo is hot within the jam band scene right now is an understatement: a nomination for “Best New Band” at the 2005 Jammy Awards in New York City, two trips on the Jam Cruise. They recently finished their second tour of Europe, playing Italy, Switzerland and Austria, sharing the bill with the likes of B.B. King and Robert Cray. They played to a packed tent at Bonnaroo this year, despite being in the same time slot as Radiohead. In early January, they are headed out with longtime heroes Lynyrd Skynyrd on their inaugural “Gimme Three Days” cruise.

Tishamingo are long time friends, originally from Tallahassee, FL, who now call Athens, GA home. Playing on and off together in a variety of combinations during their early years as musicians has paid big dividends for Tishamingo. High caliber musicianship and a powerful stage presentation make Tishamingo both a throwback to their musical ancestors and a frontrunner in today’s crowded musical bandscape. Mastery of their instruments, mature songwriting and a strong live show make Tishamingo a name to write on any listener’s short list. Two bluesy, yet, melodic lead guitars with fat tones and two lead vocalists with world weary soul draw comparisons with numerous legendary bands from the same part of the world. Tishamingo welcomes all of the comparisons.

“I was doing an acoustic thing in Atlanta and played with Richard”, Cameron says. “I was also doing an acoustic duo thing in Tallahassee with Jess on the weekends.” The three decided to play together and recruited Spivey. Tishamingo was formed in March of 2001.

Once they felt they were prepared, rampant touring followed all over the South East. Today Tishamingo plays 200 + shows a year and has gained a loyal fan base which grows with every show. New markets are broken with each new leg of touring.

Oh, yes. The name. In the movie, “O Brother, Where Art Thou?”, the main characters find themselves in the town of Tishomingo where they end up forming a successful musical group. Different location, slightly different spelling. With any luck, a similar result.
